Artist Statement
I have struggled to cope with trauma throughout my life. Much of which was set within the domestic space. I have carried these fragile conceptions of home with me as I have grown into adulthood. My childhood experiences have affected every decision I have made as an adult just as my newfound maturity influences my childhood memories. My work demonstrates this push and pull between my adult self and my inner child. I use a variety of materials in my work, often combining collage with printmaking, to create a pieced together narrative of my journey through a feminist lense. I use found objects and other collected items to explore the physicality of growing up identifying as a woman. These reflections of my own life have also led me to explore the roles and representations of women in society. Much of my work contains imagery of the home, interior and exterior. The domestic space is a stereotypical place for women not only working, but gathering and creating community. My work often fluctuates between these positive and negative experiences. I chose printmaking as my primary medium partially because of its versatility, but mostly because of how accessible it is to myself as well as other artists. Printmaking encompasses so many different processes allowing for artists to expand their knowledge and create works that speak to their individuality.
